At the foot of Monte Pellegrino stretches the Favorita Park, Palermo’s largest green space and one of the most extensive urban nature areas in Italy.
Established in 1799 by King Ferdinand IV of Bourbon as a royal hunting reserve, the park is now part of the Monte Pellegrino Nature Reserve and offers an exceptional variety of landscapes, trails, and historical landmarks.
The park is home to Mediterranean woodlands, olive groves, citrus orchards, and a network of walking paths that wind through historic fountains,
scenic viewpoints, and the rocky slopes of the mountain.
Walking through Favorita Park means being surprised at every step, surrounded by lush nature and architectural gems.
Recommended route
From our property, it takes just a few minutes to reach the park entrance. From there, you can follow either a loop or a linear route, suitable for all ages, passing by some of the area’s most captivating spots:
- The Chinese Palace, an exotic royal residence in Oriental style, commissioned by the Bourbons
- Villa Niscemi, an elegant aristocratic villa now used for official city functions
- The historic fountains, such as the Fountain of the King and the Queen, dotted along the paths
- Nature trails that pass through the woods and lead up to the slopes of Monte Pellegrino — perfect for peaceful walks immersed in nature
The walk can last between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the route and the stops you choose to make.
It’s ideal for a relaxing afternoon outdoors, perhaps with a packed lunch or a quiet break under centuries-old trees.
For the more adventurous, the walk can be extended along the trails heading north through the park, leading all the way to Mondello Beach, one of the city’s most iconic seaside destinations.
This longer, more demanding route offers the unique reward of arriving at the sea after a journey through nature, history, and culture.
