Palermo’s historic center is one of the largest and richest in Europe: a mosaic of cultures, rulers, and architectural styles woven through alleys, squares, markets, and centuries-old palaces.
Strolling its streets means crossing centuries of history, being surprised by Baroque churches, grand theaters, Arab-Norman atmospheres, hidden gardens, and bustling markets.
Our one-day itinerary lets you explore the city’s most iconic spots along an easy-to-follow circular route, which you can start directly from our property.
The route
From our property, you can easily reach Piazza Politeama by foot or by bus along Via Libertà (line 101). This is where your day of discovery begins.
The first stop is the majestic Teatro Politeama, setting the tone with the elegant atmosphere of the modern center.
Just a few minutes on foot from here is the Teatro Massimo, the cultural heart of the city.
Following the pedestrian street Via Maqueda, lined with historic buildings and lively venues, you’ll reach the Quattro Canti — the spectacular Baroque crossroads marking the old city’s center.
A little further on, Piazza Pretoria captivates with its famous monumental fountain, while nearby, in Piazza Bellini, stand the churches of San Cataldo and La Martorana, testaments to the city’s Arab-Norman soul.
Continuing along Via Vittorio Emanuele, you arrive at Piazza Marina and the Foro Italico, perfect spots for a short seaside break.
Entering the Kalsa district, you’ll find the Spasimo, a striking roofless church now used as a cultural space, and Piazza Magione, with its gardens and popular vibe.
From here, it’s easy to venture into the bustling and authentic Ballarò market, emerging at the majestic Cathedral.
The grand finale is the Norman Palace, home to the magnificent Palatine Chapel — a Byzantine jewel that tells the story of Palermo’s cultural complexity.
Returning is simple and convenient: from the Orleans stop right next to the palace, take the train to Notarbartolo,
then change direction toward Giachery and get off at the Fiera stop, just steps from our entrance.
